The Breville One-Touch Tea Maker Review

What’s better on a cold day than sharing a cup of hot tea with my family?  Nothing.  The Breville One-Touch Tea Maker makes it easy to make and share a delicious cup of tea.  Tea’s not as simple to make as you might think – each variety has its own specific temperature and brew time for the best taste.  This kettle takes the guess work out of brewing.  Its variable temperature control gives me direct control over the temperature the water heats to, as well as offering some pre-set temperatures.  A tea basket automatically lifts up and down into the water, allowing for even brewing.  A sixty minute keep-warm feature lets us drink whenever we’d like, while a time since brew LCD monitor lets me see at a glance how long the prepared tea has been sitting there.  There’s even an auto-start function, which means I can have fresh tea waiting for me when I wake up each morning.  If all I need is hot water, the maker works perfectly well as a kettle.  Tea’s never been easier (or better tasting) than since I’ve gotten this machine.

Pros:

• Pre-Set Time and Temperature: There are a huge variety of teas out there, and each one seems to need its own temperature and brewing time.  It can get complicated to keep track of it all, which is why I love that the Breville One-Touch comes with several pre-settings.  There’s a setting for herbal, black, green, white, and oolong, which easily covers everything I make for my family and myself.

 

• Customizable Time and Temperature: Sometimes it’s nice to go off the beaten path.  This kettle also allows me to choose the temperature and brew time manually.  I can choose my temperature at five degree increments between 160 and 212 degrees, and I can choose my time at thirty second increments up to ten minutes. 

 

• Automated Tea Basket: My husband really likes this.  Instead of leaving the tea to sit there motionless, the tea basket automatically moves up and down.  This keeps the tea moving, allowing water to move in all around it.  You get much better infusion this way, plus it’s kind of fun to watch the basket move up and down!

 

• Time Since Brew Monitor: Fresh tea is delicious.  Old Tea?  Not so much.  This kettle has an LCD monitor that keeps track of how long it’s been since your current batch of tea has been brewed.  The kettle will keep the tea warm for as long as you want it to, so it’s easy to time exactly how long you need to wait until you brew your next batch.

Cons:

• Can’t Go Through the Dishwasher: Unfortunately, this kettle can’t be sent through the dishwasher.   However, that doesn’t mean it’s hard to clean.  All I have to do is boil water in it for three minutes and it’s ready to go again.

 

• Short Cord: The cord on this unit isn’t as long as I’d like it to be. I have a lot of outlets handy, but I still needed to use an additional cord to plug it in.  On the other hand, if you’re short on space it means you won’t have a bunch of useless cord cluttering up your space.

A well-brewed cup of tea can turn a stressful day into a relaxing one.  I always find that sharing a pot of tea is a great way to connect with my family, and the Breville One-Touch makes this indulgence even easier.  The easy to set time and temperature settings make it a breeze to use, and the pre-settings let me get the perfect brew for each type of tea.  The automated tea basket is great, as is the at a glance timer.  I couldn’t be more pleased with the tea this kettle has made and I’m looking forward to enjoying many more cups.
