T-Fal Vitesses 1.7L Electric Kettle Review

Hot cocoa is a necessity on cold days at my house, so a few months ago I decided to invest in a T-Fal Vitesses 1.7L Electric Kettle.  It’s been doing its job well so far, heating up water quickly for my daughters’ after school snacks.  I’m really impressed with how quickly it heats water – seven cups will boil in five minutes. Once the water hits the boiling point the automatic shut off will kick in.  This kettle comes with a variable temperature control, which comes in very handy for making different types of tea.  The kettle lifts off its base when it’s time to pour, keeping cords out of the way.  There are two exterior water level indicators, which I thought was a nice touch.  The on/off button is on the handle, making it easy to turn the kettle off when you pick it up.  A concealed heating unit reduces the amount of buildup in the kettle, so I get clean water every time.  This kettle has a lot going for it, and I’m very glad I decided to go with this model.

Pro:

• Variable Temperature Control: My husband and I both love tea, but every tea is different.  Sometimes you need to heat water to a specific temperature to get the best taste.  Fortunately the Vitesses had a variable temperature control.  All we need to do is figure out what temperature we need for a given tea and we’re all set.  This a great feature to have for tea drinkers.

 

• Automatic Shut-Off: Things can get a bit hectic in our house, so it’s not uncommon for me to forget there’s water on the boil.  With our stovetop kettle this could become a problem, but now I don’t worry about it.  Once the water boils the kettle shuts itself off, so I never have to worry about damaging it by letting it run dry.

 

• Easy to Handle: There are several things that make this kettle easy to handle.  First of all, it lifts off its base when I pick it up, so I don’t have to worry about a cord getting in the way when I pour.  Secondly, the on/off switch is located on the handle, so it’s very convenient to use.  Finally, there are two water indicators on the kettle.  One is there for right hand users while the other is for those who favor their left.  I thought that was a great thing to include so that anyone can easily use it.

 

• Concealed Heating Unit: I don’t like the idea of the scaly build-up that can come from an exposed heating unit, so the fact that the unit is concealed in this kettle was a definite plus for me.

Cons:

• Surface Gets Warm: The surface of the kettle does get quite hot to the touch, which may be worrisome if you have kids that want to use it. After some thought I decided to let my daughters use it, though, because the handle is quite cool and is far enough away from the body that it doesn’t pose a problem.

 

• A Little Noisy: This kettle does make a bit of sound as the water heats up.  This isn’t unexpected, though, and is actually brought about because the water inside it is heating up so quickly.  I’m more than willing to put up with a little noise for some quickly heated water!

Having an electric kettle on hand makes life so much easier.  I can let my girls make cocoa when they want without having to stop what I’m doing.  The Vitesses’s variable temperature control makes tea making easy, and the safety features means that anyone in my family can use it without me worrying.
